Republican candidate, Donald Trump, has won the US presidential election and is set to become the 47th President of the United States, after flipping nearly every swing state that the current president, Joe Biden, won in 2020.
The former president — who was rejected by a majority of Americans in 2020 during his re-election campaign after winning an unprecedented race in 2016 — took to the stage at Mar-a-Lago before the result was officially called on Wednesday morning, saying: 'I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president, and every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family and your future. Every single day, I will be fighting for you and with every breath in my body, I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America.'

Republicans have also seized control of the Senate for the first time in four years after flipping two seats in the Senate, wresting the narrow majority in the upper chamber of Congress from Democrats. A Republican trifecta — with clear leadership in the White House, Senate and House of Representatives — will enable Trump to usher in most of his policies free of challenges.
Trump's opponent, Kamala Harris, did not address the nation or supporters from her watch party at her Howard University alma mater on Wednesday night, as vote counting carried on into the early morning hours. Of the swing states that Biden won in 2020, Harris is projected to have only won Minnesota.
