The ELLE Edit Of Paros Hotels For An Unsung Island Escape

The best hotels in Paros, the Greek island of those in the know.

By

Cosme

Greece has many islands, but while the hordes flock to Santorini and Mykonos, locate one of the best hotels in Paros instead and feel smug about it all summer long.

The Cycladic isle has been garnering popularity for a while now – Salma Hayek was spotted holidaying here a few summers ago and Tom Hanks owned a house on Antiparos. It’s also popular with always-chic French people.

Ferries dock in the port town of Parikia, which gives visitors the perfect introduction to the island. The most chi-chi spot however is Naoussa, which is unsurprisingly where many of the flurry of recent hotel openings are based.

Inland, don’t miss hill-top village Lefkes – and there are some lovely tavernas lined up along the water’s edge in Piso Livadi. Drios is another village that was made for evening meals and after-dinner strolls.

New to the island a couple of summers ago, Cosme is within walking distance of Naoussa for shopping and sunset strolls, or you can simply stay put beside its half-moon pool or in its spaceship-like spa. Check in to Parilio, which has a shuttle to take guests back and forth; from the hotel to Kolymbithres Beach, it’s 20-minute walk. Or stick with elegant old favourite Saint Andrea.

Here are the best Paros hotels, ready and waiting for summer 2025…

1

Andronis Minois

best hotels in paros
Booking.com

New to Paros’s shores this summer, Andronis, which has an impressive portfolio of boutique hotels over on Santorini, has taken over a village-style retreat just outside of the main port town of Parikia.

There’s a central pool as the main focal point, along with a small spa, but the highlight of any stay is likely to be dinner at the restaurant. A meal here is especially essential for fans of the humble Greek salad, since it’s served elevated in ways you’d never have thought imaginable, with whipped feta, carob-rusk crumbs and cucumber ice. The taverna version, while beloved, will never taste the same again. It also excels at Greek staple fava-bean purée (presented here with delicious small chunks of chorizo), flame-grilled steaks and lemony pasta, and the taramasalata is refined beyond recognition, too.

Avant Mar, Paros

For a while now, Paros has been growing in popularity as the Cycladic isle of choice and its fate was further sealed with the arrival of its very own Matsuhisa outpost at Avant Mar this season, ready to give travellers some nikkei food just when they need it. Alongside a fun cocktail list of smoky mezcalitas and watermelon martinis, diners can feast on truffle-enhanced zingy spinach salads, citrusy sashimi and scorched ngiri and, of course, Chef Nobu’s stand-out signature plates, such as rock shrimp with three equally delicious dipping sauces and the sweet, sublime black cod miso. Though, helpfully, if you are craving all the feta instead, simply head over to Thymes, the hotel’s Mediterranean restaurant. Avant Mar is also home to a gin and tonic bar with a view and Figs, a coffee and pastry shop, which, trust us, you’ll smell first.

The hotel excels in the art of the Cycladic aesthetic, with a decor that is a masterclass in neutrals and lots of the island’s famous marble put to good use, including in the flooring, which mimics the classic flagstones. The hotel is formed from assorted whitewashed buildings, with a curving pool at the centre and a patch of sand directly in front of Matsuhisa. The location is perfection: it’s almost in its own valley, between buildings piled up the coast in both directions, with the pretty village of Naoussa within a few minutes’ walk away. Here, you can take your pick of the tavernas lining the water’s edge, with an ice-cream-enhanced stroll and some shopping awaiting after dinner.

Cosme

If you want to eat the best ceviche of your life, head straight to Cosme’s Parostia restaurant next time you find yourself on Paros. The beachside restaurant is the dream Greek lunch spot, with wicker pergolas, shade-giving trees and dappled light providing the perfect breezy backdrop. Along with the signature Salatouri ceviche, made with locally caught fish, capers, parsley and lemon cream, you can feast on equally superlative rib-eye steaks, honey-sweetened Ibérico pork chops and crispy beef carpaccio with spicy mayonnaise.

The hotel has a perfect setting – it’s right on the beach but within walking distance of Naoussa, the island’s most boujee town, so you can wander over in time for sunset drinks by the harbour, some shopping in the boutiques that line the flagstone-paved streets and dinner in a smart seafood taverna at the water’s edge.

‘Cosme’ means order, harmony and beauty, all of which are in abundance throughout its whitewashed buildings. There’s a half-moon-shaped pool ready for lazy days that stretch into sundowner o’clock, along with a spa that looks like a spaceship if you squint. It’s the whitewashed vision of your Cycladic dreams.

The Rooster, Antiparos

best hotels in paros
Courtesy of the hotel

It’s not technically in Paros, but the Rooster is worth a space on our list for being more than worth the swift voyage over to diminutive neighbouring island Antiparos alone. It can be reached via a brief ferry ride from either Pounta or Parikia. Antiparos (literally ‘Before Paros’) is much smaller than its now cosmopolitan big sister and as such still feels sleepy in comparison. But with celebrities such as Tom Hanks owning property on the island and thus adding to its allure, it remains a challenge to ensure it doesn’t get trampled – which is precisely why the Rooster is so refreshing.

The name was inspired by the wake-up call the owner had when revisiting the island – she recalls feeling an energy in the area as a rooster crowed, heralding an awakening that made her reassess her hectic lifestyle. The result is a supremely serene retreat, which treads lightly on its surroundings – the owner, keen to preserve the island destination of her childhood holidays, does a lot of conservation work in the area. It shows, from the way the buildings blend seamlessly into their surroundings to how the resort is only dimly lit up at night to minimise impact on the local wildlife.

The Rooster has its own farm, where much of the herbs, fruit and vegetables served in the Secret Garden restaurant are grown; and with a bakery where the superlative house foccacia and sourdough are baked. After a sundowner at one of the most perfectly positioned for sunset spots on the island (the bar), head to the charming walled restaurant to try out the produce – we ate delicious lamb patties with a fresh green sauce, grilled supersize prawns, and steak with harissa, chimichurri and crispy potatoes.

Each of the houses – with their private pools and high-spec furniture and finishings – are a sanctuary we would happily have whiled away weeks in, but to further the sense of wellbeing, simply locate the spa for an ayurvedic treatment, some sound-healing or a yoga class.

Parilio

best hotels in paros
Courtesy of the hotel

Sister stay to Cosme, Parilio is across the bay near Kolymbithres Beach. It is a member of Design Hotels and with just one look at the pool, complete with casual boulders and symmetrical foliage, you’ll soon see why. The hotel’s signature whitewashed sugarcubes are a Philhellene’s dream, especially if it’s Cycladic style you worship.

There’s a shuttle taking guests back and forth to Naoussa, where buzzy restaurants await along the waterfront – or you can stay within the stylish confines of the resort and enjoy the wares of Paron, Parilio’s masterful restaurant, which has Michelin-starred chef Thanos Feskos at the helm. He has a Green Michelin Star to show for his dedication to sustainability, seasonality and zero waste. As at Cosme’s Parostia, sublime ceviche awaits – and another menu highlight is the lobster orzo, a refined take on a classic Greek dish.

Cove Paros

best hotels in paros
Stavros Habakis

Most of the luxury hotels in Paros have chosen Naoussa as their backdrop and it’s not hard to see why – this former fishing village has all the whitewashed buildings, chi-chi boutiques, sea-edge tavernas and smooth grey flagstones you could wish for on a Greek-island holiday. You’ll find the aptly named Cove on a bijou bay, with the centre of Naoussa just a 15-minute stroll away, giving guests the best of both worlds. There’s a stretch of sand directly in front of the property, as well as a huge pool at its heart. Next to the pool is a spa cabana for tension-relieving treatments, in case you’re not feeling relaxed enough.

The seafront stay has 40 rooms and suites, as well as five suites with private pools that are perfect for families and groups. It sits on 20 acres of land, with an all-day beach bar and its Rada restaurant the natural hub at which to gather. Here, you can enjoy dishes such as carpaccio that was almost too pretty to eat (we didn’t have to try very hard, though), huge plates of paccheri pasta with sage, chicken and bacon, and slow-cooked glazed lamb with chickpea cream and rosemary sauce. Save space for the crispy baklava, served with pistachio cream and blueberry sorbet. When in Greece…

She was previously deputy chief sub-editor on the print team at Harper’s Bazaar and is a long-time contributor and editor at Mr & Mrs Smith. She writes about travel for Hearst Digital titles such as Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, Red, Esquire and more.
