FOOD: Jimmy’s BBQ Club
Are there three sweeter letters in the English language than B, B and Q? We think not. Especially when it’s a BBQ created by pop-up supremo Jimmy Garcia, who returns to the Southbank once again after a sell-out summer last year. Not that he’ll be doing all the work, mind you – each table in his rooftop restaurant garden comes equipped with a built-in barbie, on which you’ll get to cook a part of each of the six dishes on the tasting menu. Expect the likes of miso-glazed charred baby aubergines with pomegranate molasses, langoustines with roasted red pepper puree, black garlic and jamon, griddled apricots with honey mascarpone… Which can all be summed up in another sweet three-letter word: Y-U-M.

EVENT: London Midsummer Garden Festival Summer Solstice Edition
This weekend marks the Summer Solstice, aka the longest day of the year. That’s a lot of time to fill. If only there were somewhere we could soak up all those hours of sun in a rooftop garden, complete with festoon lighting, hot-air balloons, hammocks, swings and bongo players, where we’d knock back cocktails and prosecco and tuck into street food, then maybe, say, party into the night soundtracked by Ibiza-style disco, house and techno DJs… *As if by magic, London Midsummer Garden Festival appears* That’s that sorted, then.

ART: Kinetica presents Invisible Realm: Exploring the Unseen
Invisible art. Sounds like a contradiction in terms. But worry not: this new exhibition isn’t just a load of blank walls, oh no. What’s actually going on is that six cutting-edge artists are ‘exploring the hidden dimensions of what lies beneath and between our sensory experience’ – which translates as luminescent, ambient pieces by Lauren Baker, reflected LED forms by Bardula, mobile sculptures by Daniel Chadwick, kinetic art by Ivan Black… and the chance to feel like you’re on quite the psychedelic trip from the safety of a Covent Garden art gallery. Far out, man.

FUN: Human Football Zorbing on Ice
It’s easy to be negative about the World Cup. It’s just a load of balls, isn’t it? But we’re here to tell you, don’t be so hasty: it has also given rise to all sorts of spherical fun at Queens Skate Dine & Bowl. Because there, on each Friday of the tournament, you get to play footie yourself… only inside a giant inflatable orb. ON ICE. Yup, you’ll bounce, spin and slide about in teams of three as you attempt to nudge an inflatable football into giant goals on the rink – then get into post-match analysis over a prosecco at MEATLiquor’s on-site bar. And if you’re not quite sure how zorbing works? It'll be ok. Just roll with it…

POP-UP: A Common Ground
You know what London's short of? Front lawns. Seriously, how many people do you know that has one? Exactly. But the good news is, from this weekend we can all use Tate Britain's, because they're turning the space in front of the gallery into an arty community garden for the summer. Of course, this being Tate, it's no ordinary patch of grass – this garden has voice-triggered fountains and sculptures, a Botanical Bar, supper clubs run by the likes of Skye Gyngell, plus a host of arty activities going on each day, kicking off with Queer + Now festival this Saturday. All this, and no bins, weeds, or discarded mattresses in sight. Surely a first for London.

NIGHTLIFE: Krankbrother presents Shoreditch Street Party
We’ve filed this under ‘nightlife’, but really this weekend is all about ‘daylife’ – because party starters Krankbrother are bringing their beats out into the sunshine. Back to host another edition of their Street Party series, the DJ duo will be closing down Shoreditch’s Christopher Street and replacing boring old cars with big, fat electronic sounds from Norwegian disco king Todd Terje and killer dance-floor-filler DJ Koze. What’s more, there’s street food from top local traders, summer cocktails and frozen margheritas from Soulshakers... not so much with the bunting though. It’s not THAT kind of street party.
