You need a few pieces of art on the walls to really bring a space together. A well-placed print will give a room that final splash of colour or focal point to make it feel like home. Where to buy affordable art?
There are affordable art options to decorate your walls without spending hundreds of pounds (so long as you're content with foregoing original pieces, of course). There are plenty of indie artists selling beautiful works on sites like Etsy, Not On The High Street and Fy! at surprisingly purse-friendly prices.
You'll also find lots of inexpensive pieces on all the high street heavy hitters. The likes of H&M Home, Anthropologie, Rockett St George and John Lewis all have a strong rotation of punchy prints to choose from, with plenty of options at under £100, often framed as well.
Then there are the dedicated online boutiques for upcoming artists. Make sure to check Drool (very cool) and Ink & Drop (more offbeat) for pieces you might not have seen elsewhere.
A silver lining when buying prints over originals: they're often available in multiple sizes, so you can get just what you need for your space.
Affordable art for renters
Renting? No problem. There are drill-free picture hooks that – usually – stay fixed firmly to the wall until they're ready to be removed, at which point they peel off gently with no damage. In our experience, they work better for smaller prints with lighter frames. To give them the best chance of success, make sure to prep your surfaces properly with sugar soap beforehand to ensure a good adherence.
Alternatively, you could put up a picture ledge. These give you a space to display multiple pieces of art without having to hang each individually, so you'll have less post-tenancy DIY to deal with. Kitting out your space with a couple of these also gives you the freedom to switch out pieces easily without the need to rehang, which can be a pain.
