The Handmaid's Tale may be coming to a close but new Netflix thriller series Baby Farm — which was released onto the platform on June 20 — is coming for its dystopian crown.

Baby Farm, per Netflix, follows 'a young pregnant woman [who] accepts help from a high-profile organisation offering support — and becomes a prisoner in their sinister plot.'

The organisation in the series, the Evans Foundation, is run by two British philanthropists, an expatriate couple living in Lagos, Nigeria who are actually exploiting vulnerable women for profit.

The protagonist, Adanna is played by Rita Dominic, while the rest of the cast of the ten-episode series also includes Joseph Benjamin, Onyinye Odokoro, Genoveva Umeh, Langley Kirkwood and Jenny Stead.

Though it was released in Nigeria in March, Baby Farm only became available to watch in the UK in June but, at the time of writing, sits among Netflix's top ten TV shows.

The release of Baby Farm precedes what is set to be a heart-wrenching week for fans of The Handmaid's Tale, with the final ever episode airing on Saturday, July 5.

The hit Hulu adaptation, which is in its sixth and final series, of Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel foreshadowed much of the tumult that has unfolded in the world today. The series, which premiered in 2017, drew inspiration from Atwood’s story but creators of the show extended the novel past its intended lifecycle to create the premise for the series. The result is a show that has stunned, shocked and seriously earned its stripes among its now-adoring legion of fans.

Baby Farm is available to stream on Netflix now.
