In the ever-expanding world of Yellowstone, it seems the neo-Western frontier is far from quiet. Enter Y: Marshals — a new chapter in Taylor Sheridan’s cowboy universe, this time with Luke Grimes stepping back into his cowboy boots as Kayce Dutton.
Premiering on CBS in 2026 and filming set to begin this summer, Y: Marshals (the tentative title) will see Kayce leave what is left of the Dutton ranch and drop him into a new role as a U.S. Marshal — chasing fugitives with the same intensity he once held when working as a former Navy SEAL.
Below, we detail all that there is to know about the upcoming series.

What will the plot of the spin-off be about?
The official logline reads: ‘With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defence in the region’s war on violence.’
Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Y: Marshals will air Sundays at 9 p.m. on CBS. The series is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone, alongside Grimes and Spencer Hudnut, who also serves as showrunner.
This spinoff is part of a broader expansion of the Yellowstone universe. Another series, tentatively titled Dutton Ranch, which is set to focus on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, is also in development, with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser returning to their roles to play the much-loved couple.
Who will be in the cast of the new spin-off?
As the series follows Kayce, Luke Grimes will be the star of the show. Details of other cast members such as Kayce's wife Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) and whether she will reprise her role, or their son Tate (Brecken Merrill) are not yet known.
Can I watch a trailer for the new spin-off?
Not yet, as the series has just been announced and filming has not yet commenced, any kind of footage of the series is not expected to be unveiled until potentially the end of 2025, or early 2026. However, we will regularly be updating this article, so watch this space!
