This month’s ELLE UK cover star Emma Corrin is one of those A-listers who graces season seven, appearing in ‘Hotel Reverie’, an episode many are referring to as this season’s ‘San Junipero’, one of the most beloved episodes of the now huge canon. The episode stars Corrin as 1940s movie star Dorothy Chambers, the lead in a classic Hollywood black and white movie, called Hotel Reverie. Speaking to Emma during our cover interview, we asked them what their favourite special moment from rehearsing and shooting the episode was.
‘I think walking onto the set for the first time, which had these incredible backdrops hand painted entirely black and white… and working with the live scorpion,’ they said.
We’ll say no more about the scorpion to avoid spoilers, but Emma added they also loved a specific part of playing Dorothy.
‘I love that transatlantic accent,’ they said. ‘I think films around that time like Casablanca are obviously incredible. And I think [this episode of Black Mirror] is very nostalgic for that. It makes you think about cinema at that time and what we're producing now, and the differences.
‘It puts modern cinema in comparison to old cinema, and then in comparison to technology which is being used to bring those two things together. And I think it just leaves that there for you to decide what you think about it.’
