If you’re waiting for another season of Severance following that finale, the best advice we have for now is a reference to the poster of Dylan in the Lumon break room: Hang in there! The day after the finale of season two aired in America, we have confirmation that season three is happening. After becoming Apple TV+’s most-watched series (surpassing even Ted Lasso), the sci-fi show created by Dan Erickson seems like the kind of project any streamer would want to turn into a franchise and run for as long as possible. And now we also at least have a little reassurance from creator Ben Stiller that more is on the way, soon-ish.

Severance has been renewed for a third season!

Yes, on March 21, the day after the show had aired the season two finale in America, Apple and Ben Stiller released a statement (and a video announcement on X) confirmed season three is happening.

In a hilarious statement, Stiller said: 'Making Severance has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of. While I have no memory of this, I’m told making season three will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.

'I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast & crew, Apple and the whole Severance team,' said star and executive producer Adam Scott. 'Oh hey also - not a huge deal - but if you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.'

'The idea of getting to make more Severance with the greatest cast and crew on Earth is more thrilling to me than all the world's finger traps combined,' said creator, writer and executive producer Dan Erickson. 'I can't wait to continue spreading woe, frolic, dread and malice with these truly incredible people.'

'What Ben, Dan, Adam and the talented cast and crew behind Severance have brought to the screen is undeniable magic,' said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. 'We’re so proud to be the home for this brilliant series and look forward to audiences experiencing what’s in store for season three.'

Stiller had previously hinted at the show’s future, telling Collider in November 2024 that the series could go on if it continues to be a success.

'You have a responsibility to the audience that you’re going somewhere with it,' he said. 'That’s always been a part of it for us, really understanding where it’s heading to, and Apple’s been really supportive of that and been sensitive to what the story is and not saying, "Okay, this is something that has to keep going as long as it’s successful." It should go as long as the story goes, and that’s something we have an idea of, and we’re working towards as we’re starting up our season 3 work.'

When will Severance season 3 come out?

Speaking on the New Heights podcast (the show fronted by Travis and Jason Kelce), Stiller insisted fans wouldn't have to wait as long as they did between season one and two.

'No, the plan is not to [wait three years],' Stiller said when asked. 'Hopefully we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon.'

We don't have that date yet, but as well as his pod comments, Stiller told THR that he hopes the wait for season 3 isn’t as long as the three-year pause before season 2, which was delayed due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes.

Who will be in the cast?

Currently, the cast includes: Adam Scott (Mark), Britt Lower (Helly/Helena), John Turturro (Irving), Zach Cherry (Dylan), Tramell Tillman (Mr. Milchick), Patricia Arquette (Ms. Cobel), Dichen Lachman (Gemma), Christopher Walken (Burt), Jen Tullock (Devon), and Michael Chernus (Ricken).

New additions to season 2 included Sarah Bock (Ms. Huang) and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Mr. Drummond). Time will tell who in the ensemble will make it to next season.

Is there a trailer for 'Severance' Season 3?

Not yet, but Apple CEO Tim Cook did put this video on X, announcing season three is happening.

This story will be updated.

The complete first and second seasons of “Severance” are now streaming globally on Apple TV+.
