‘My favourite French phrase is je t’aime,’ Lucien Laviscount, star of Emily in Paris, tells ELLE UK in a game of Ask Me Anything.

It should come as little surprise to anybody that the Burnley-born actor, whose breakout role was in BBC’s teen drama Grange Hill, has become such a Francophile. After all, if anybody ought to have familiarised themselves with the French language by now, it’s Laviscount, who has starred in the hit Netflix series Emily In Paris as cheeky chappy Alfie since its sophomore season aired in 2021. The first part of its fourth outing has just been released on the streaming service.

In fact, his dream 24 hours in Paris — spent with the recipient of his favourite French phrase, no doubt — would entail starting with a walk along the Seine. 'Beautiful, magical, majestic,' he muses. From there, he'd recommend visiting his favourite café, Café Charlot in Le Marais, before heading to the Louvre and wandering to the Jardin des Tuileries. 'Getting lost in Paris means you're found, if that makes sense?' he jokes.

Filming for the show typically keeps him away from his home in the UK for up to six months of the year, which has forced him to develop a few creature comforts when he's missing home. His go-to? Funk and soul playlists, of course.

'Growing up, we always had funk and soul playing through the house so that makes up my daily playlist,' he says, swaying his shoulders. 'Little soul, little funk.'
