Nia Vardalos, who plays Tula and who wrote the first two films, shared on Instagram, ‘He had told me he wouldn’t be able to join us for the third film and his wish was that we go on. I wrote the screenplay to reflect Michael’s decision and will always treasure his last messages to me, hoping we were filming soon.’
The filming of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 began on June 21, 2022, and largely took place in Greek capital Athens, and on the island of Corfu, wrapping less than two months later on August 4. Vardalos has written and directed the third instalment, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have produced the film, and the original cast will all return.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 will premiere in cinemas on 8 September.
