Zoë Kravitz has admitted that social media has 'hurt' her career.

While speaking to our sister site ELLE US, the 33-year-old actor explained her love-hate relationship with it.

Kravitz, whose comedy romance drama High Fidelity was cancelled just six months after the first season was released, started by telling the news outlet: 'I didn't really sit and think about [using Instagram to call out Hulu for canceling High Fidelity], which is sometimes my problem.'

She added: 'I'm a very impulsive person. That's one of the problems with social media in general.'

'You can just do something without thinking.'

Despite acknowledging 'good things' can come from openly sharing unapologetic thoughts, she added: 'We're also living in a time where it's good to be thoughtful about what you say.'

The Big Little Lies star highlighted both the positives and downsides of social media, and said she's experienced both.

'Social media is a big experiment that we're all participating in, and to pretend like we understand it is a joke,' she said.

'I have had my ups and downs with it. I'm sure it's helped my career in some ways, but I also think it's hurt it.'

In relation to how it affects her specifically as an actor, she said: 'It's difficult because I think we give too much information [about ourselves] and it makes it difficult for us to disappear into roles.'

'The actors that I grew up loving and watching, I didn't know anything about them. That's part of what made them so interesting.'

Kravitz had a break from Instagram in late 2021, after trolls insinuated she showed too much flesh at the 2021 Met Gala, referring to the sheer metal-mesh Saint Laurent design she wore by Anthony Vaccarello.

'The fact that people don’t think what they say affects a celebrity because you’re not a person to them is crazy,' she told us during her February ELLE UK cover interview.

'I’m a human being. I want to f*cking defend myself.'

Following the event she erased all Instagram posts and shared just one to her feed for the rest of the year.

She explained: 'The fact that I’m like, “Should I have not worn that?” No, I do what I want to do, and I make what I want to make, and if I’m now starting to be afraid of what other people are going to say or think, I’m no longer doing my job as an artist. I’m not experiencing the world and putting that into art. I’m walking on eggshells. F*ck that. So, I needed to take a minute.’
