Daisy Edgar-Jones might prefer to be compared to acting role models such as Anne Hathaway and Tilda Swinton, but there’s an unlikely star who she’s regularly being mistaken for this summer.
‘Apparently I’m really great in the most recent season of Stranger Things,’ she told ELLE UK during a recent game of Ask My Anything.
‘Everyone is saying I look like Joe [Joseph] Quinn, who is brilliant in that series. I do see the likeness. I think we could play brother or sister. That was quite funny. Everyone is like "Oh my God, you’re in Stranger Things".’

Edgar-Jones might not be caught up in the Upside Down, but her own world certainly went topsy turvy at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 when she starred in the hit BBC Three series, Normal People, opposite her BFF and award-winning actor Paul Mescal.
‘I think I’d let Paul,’ she revealed when asked who she’d let tattoo her out of her recent co-stars Mescal, Sebastian Stan and Andrew Garfield. ‘I think he’d have a very steady hand and he’s got lovely taste in tattoos.’
In the last two years, Mescal and Edgar-Jones have starred in critically acclaimed theatre productions and films like Oscar-nominated The Lost Daughter (Mescal) and Under The Banner of Heaven (Edgar-Jones), as well as walked the Met Gala red carpet together earlier this year.
‘The best thing about coming out of lockdown is being able to see all of my friends from that job,' Edgar-Jones says of her Normal People co-stars. '[It] kind of felt like my uni experience. It was such a special job for me, and we were all so young and at the beginnings of our careers... we’re all best friends.’
This summer, fans will see Edgar-Jones take the lead as Kya in the literary adaptation of Delia Owens' fictional book Where the Crawdads Sing. For the role, the Golden Globe-nominated actor delved into several books her character reads, learnt how to drive a boat and fish in New Orleans.
The film, which is out in UK cinemas on July 22, was produced by Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine. ‘She came to visit set, which was really exciting,' Edgar-Jones says of meeting the Oscar-winner for the first time.
'It was cool to see her come and see Kya’s shack because the design of it was so perfect and how I’d imagined it in the book, so that was amazing to see her reaction to it. I’m a huge Reese Witherspoon fan so it was a bit bonkers to meet her – I had to try and play it very cool.’
When Edgar-Jones isn’t filming, she’s not afraid to take to the karaoke mic to sing a rendition of Don Henley’s ‘Dirty Laundry’, and would prefer a tequila shot over a sambuca on a night out. A girl after our own heart!
