Cara Delevingne has spoken candidly about her sexuality in recent years, revealing that she identifies as pansexual.

The British model, actor and activist – who is set to front BBC documentary Planet Sex, addressing human sexuality and gender – previously discussed her identity struggles as a child, telling Variety in 2020: 'Pride to me is a sense of something that I never really had as a kid.'

Now, in a rare interview with her sisters, Poppy, 35, and Chloe, 36, the 29-year-old has opened up about the difficulties she faced growing up.

'Growing up as a queer child was isolating and hard to navigate at times,' she told her siblings in an interview published in The Times.

Delevingne, who formerly dated Pretty Little Liars actor Ashley Benson, continued: 'My sisters did their best to be there for me but it was something I had to go through myself to truly know who I was. I’m still on that journey and will continue to be for the rest of my life.'

The LGBTQ+ advocate, who has walked the runway for the likes of Chanel, Stella McCartney and Givenchy over the years and launched an acting career in Hollywood, addressed her identity in relation to older sisters.

'First and foremost I have always seen myself as a rebel, not as someone who wants to break rules but as someone who wants to question them,' she said. 'I love the word "naughty", but only as an adult. To me naughty means someone who questions what they’re told. I think at this point I might be the naughtiest of the three of us.'

The former 'Model of the Year' at the British Fashion Awards in 2012 and 2014, who previously said her integrity and morals were 'rotting' while modelling, explained how her transition into acting helped her overcome her identity issues.

'As a model I always felt like I was acting. I was constantly trying to fit a mould, but with acting I’ve been able to understand and navigate my own relationship with emotions,' she noted.

'Poppy was the person who really inspired me to get into it. Without her I wouldn’t do what I do.'

Speaking of her sister Chloe's children (Atticus, six, and Juno, four), she opened up about her aunt regret, commenting: 'I find it very hard not being able to see my sisters, especially not getting to be the auntie I wish I could be.

'I love my job and what I do, but one of my biggest heartbreaks is missing out on special occasions with my family.'

Fellow model and actor Poppy, who's been married to former model James Crook since 2014, echoed her sister's heartwarming comments, describing her youngest sibling as 'fierce, loyal and resilient'.

'Cara’s career was very different — she did one or two castings and that was it. It was stratospheric. She’s a supermodel,' she added.

The Kingsman: The Golden Circle star also commended on her sister's approach to fame, noting: 'She has her head screwed on. I don’t feel suffocated [by fame] in any way, whereas for Cara it’s a big part of her life and I feel very protective of her for that, especially when people run at her.'

As for whether there was was competitiveness amongst her and Cara, Poppy, who described herself as 'a gawky girl', recalled: 'It has never been competitive between us.

'If anything it was wonderful when she came into the industry because it was like "take your sister to work" day.'

Chloe, who is training to be midwife, also spoke adoringly of her youngest sister, saying: 'I feel proud of the way she speaks up about mental health or sexual orientation. Especially coming from the upbringing we had.'
