Meghan Markle might be half way across the world right now, but she’s continuing to show her support to those living in the UK who are helping their local communities during the coronavirus pandemic.

Last week, the Duchess of Sussex took part in a Zoom conference call to show her appreciation for a campaign launched by a group of Grenfell Tower fire survivors who are helping to feed Londoners during the nationwide lockdown.

In the clip, the 38-year-old chats to members of the Hubb Community Kitchen, launched in 2017, following the fire, to help feed locals affected by the disaster.

From Monday April 20, the Kitchen will cook between 250 and 300 meals a day, three days a week, from members’ homes which will then be distributed to the elderly and vulnerable living in the capital city.

The publication notes that a lot of the produce for the meals is supplied by the charity The Felix Project, which sources surplus food from cafés, restaurants and supermarkets.

‘The spirit of the Hubb Community Kitchen has always been one of caring, giving back and helping those in need, initially in Grenfell and now throughout the UK,’ Meghan says in the video, dressed in a plain white T-shirt and with her hair scraped back.

‘A home-cooked meal from one neighbour to another, when they need it most, is what community is all about.

'I'm so proud of the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen, and the continued support The Felix Project gives them to carry out these acts of goodwill, which at this moment are urgently needed.'

The royal, who is living in Los Angeles with her husband Prince Harry and son Archie during lockdown, launched a charity cookbook with the Hubb Community Kitchen in 2018, making her first solo project as a duchess.

Discussing how they can feed Londoners during lockdown, Meghan told the Kitchen’s members: ‘You all had it in you and what was so great is after that first day and then however many visits later, and going "yeah we’re just going to make a book", and not realising, knowing and having a lot of faith in what you guys could bring to the table, and what you could inspire but obviously not knowing what a huge success it was going to be.

'That is just a testament to you, and what I love is it’s just inspired so many people.'

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been showing their support for their local community in California and those in the UK in recent weeks during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier this week, the couple were seen delivering food to Los Angeles residents living with critical health conditions.
