Almost two years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex just witnessed another couple's romantic moment.

On Thursday, the Duchess returned to the UK - after staying in Canada following her and Harry's announcement that they had decided to step down as senior members of the royal family - to join her husband at the Endeavour Fund Awards in London.

The awards celebrate the achievements of wounded army personnel who have competed in sport and adventure events in the past year.

Watching the proposal, Harry and Meghan smiled and clapped their hands, with the 38-year-old placing a loving hand on her husband's knee and it seems that Meg had tears in her eyes during the proposal, clearly touched by the sweet moment. The crowd applauded Holland during the proposal.

After the engaged couple left the stage, the Duchess brought her hands to her chest, and subsequently melted our hearts.

During the evening, Meghan addressed the attendees and announced the winner of the Celebrating Excellence Award.

'Good evening everybody — it’s very nice to be back,' she told the guests.

'It’s the third year that I’ve had the incredible fortune of joining my husband here, and as you all know and can feel it is just the most inspiring space.

'I will say when we were watching the videos all the way in Canada, we had the same moment as we do each year, which is how are you going to choose?'

Ahead of the ceremony, the couple met with nominees and veterans, both giving two kisses on the cheeks to several guests, showing a rare moment of physical contact with the public for royals.

The royals' outing marks one of their final royal engagements before they official step down from their official roles in the monarchy on March 31.

In 2018, the Duchess wore an Alexander McQueen suit to the event and last year a Givenchy cream shirt and black midi skirt.

On Monday, the Duke and Duchess with join the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton at a service marking Commonwealth Day in London. It is believed the event will be the last official royal event for the couple.

In January, the couple announced that they plan to split their time between north America and the UK equally going forward.
