David Beckham has discussed his love for Prince Harry, revealing that he is ‘proud’ of his friend and thinks that he is an ‘amazing’ father.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this week, the former footballer spoke about his friendship with the royal and his decision to step down as a senior member of the royal family with Meghan Markle.

‘I haven’t spoken to Harry about him moving,’ Beckham told the news outlet, referring to the royal couple’s decision to split their time between north America and the UK. ‘We speak as friends and that’s the most important thing for me.’

The British star, who is a father to four children (Brooklyn, 20, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15, and daughter Harper, 8), also discussed his admiration for Harry as a father to his son, Archie.

‘I think he’s enjoying being a young father for the first time and that’s what we always spoke about. When you are a parent, it changes everything for you,’ Beckham told ET.

‘He always needs to be happy,’ the proud dad said of the Duke of Sussex. ‘We love him and he’s an amazing person — and that’s the most important thing — but I’m proud to see him growing up as an individual and being that person that every father wants to be.

‘Every father wants to be loving to their children and that’s what I see with him.’

Prince Harry and Beckham have been firm friends for several years, with the former athlete and his wife Victoria Beckham attending the Duke’s royal wedding to Meghan in May 2018.

On Wednesday, Harry returned to the UK from Canada’s Vancouver Island where he has since relocated with his wife and son.

During a full-day working summit for his environmental tourism initiative Travalyst in Edinburgh, Scotland, the royal asked to be introduced as ‘just Harry’.

The news comes weeks after a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan revealed that the couple would cease their work as official royals in March 31 and would no longer be using the word 'royal' in their official Sussex branding going forward.

On Friday, Harry will join Bon Jovi at a recording session to record the band’s single ‘Unbroken’ with the Invictus Games Choir for release in support of the royal’s Invictus Games Foundation.

On March 9, the pair will reunite with the royal family for Commonwealth Day services.
