Put the date in your diaries now and cancel all your early December plans, because Timothée Chalamet is coming to London to star in a play and we’re ready to do (almost) anything to get tickets.

The Call Me By Your Name actor will take the lead role in the Amy Herzog play 4,000 Miles at London’s Old Vic Theatre in Spring next year.

The play, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize when it was first produced, will run from 16 April to 23 May 2020, with previews starting from 6 April.

Chalamet, who is currently in the Netflix film The King opposite his rumoured girlfriend Lily Rose-Depp, will star as 21-year-old Leo who turns up alone at the Manhattan house of his 91-year-old grandmother Vera (played by The Crown’s Eileen Atkins) having been on a cross-country cycling tour with his best friend.

It’s set to be the starriest moment in theatre next year but 'how do I get my hands on these golden tickets?' we hear you cry.

Well, it looks like you’re going to need Glasto-style skills to make sure you secure a seat. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday December 3 at midday on the Old Vic site, so make sure this date is firmly in your diary. And all your friends’/colleagues’ diaries too for that matter, to increase your chances.

If you can’t face the wait, or don’t think your nerves can handle being put in an online queue, then you could take more drastic measures and befriend ‘a friend’ of the Old Vic - they can book from Friday November 29 at 12pm, while benefactors and patrons of the theatre can buy tickets from Friday 22 November at 10am.

You can also become a member yourself, which means you'll be eligible for priority booking, and very popular among your friends.

The good news is that ticket prices range from £12 to £65, a nice early Christmas present to yourself.

There's also a chance to get a £10 ticket for one of the PwC Previews - and we're not talking seats right at the back either. All you need to do is sign up to the mailing list and you'll be notified when the tickets are going on sale, usually five weeks prior to the first preview. Which according to our diary calculations is around 2 March 2020 - another date to remember!

If you're struggling to find a ticket on the theatre website, try Love Theatre where ticket prices start from £36.
