It’s a sad day for Big Little Lies fans.

Despite die-hard viewers of the show campaigning for Zoë Kravitz’s real-life parents, actors Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, to play her character Bonnie’s parents on the show, its casting directors have taken another direction.

Instead of recruiting Lenny and Lisa (who is now married to Game of Thrones' Jason Mamoa) into a cast including the likes of Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, directors have given the gig to two lesser-known actors.

The Hollywood Reporter reports actor Martin Donovan (Weeds, Boss) will take on the role of Martin Howard, Bonnie’s ‘abusive’ and ‘controlling’ dad.

Meanwhile, actress Crystal Fox will portray Elizabeth Howard, Bonnie's controlling and emotionally abusive mother.

We have a feeling Big Little Lies fans might be a wee bit disappointed with this decision, if their recent tweets are anything to go by:

Fox and Donovan are the latest stars to join the Emmy-winning drama, following Meryl Streep’s decision to join the cast to play the mother of Alexander Skarsgard's Perry.

The opportunity to play Zoe's on-screen father would have been exciting for fans of Lenny, given that his daughter stars in the show opposite his ex-fiancé, Kidman.

In 2003, the Lion actress and 'Are You Going To Go My Way?' singer enjoyed a low key romance, following her split from Tom Cruise.

In an interview with Net-A-Porter magazine, Nicole admitted she was secretly engaged to the American guitar hero, almost ten years after telling Vanity Fair of an engagement to a former mystery partner.

'It just wasn't right, I wasn't ready - we weren't ready,' she told the publication.

However, when talking about her upcoming role HBO series Big Little Lies, starring opposite Zoe Kravtiz (Lenny's daughter), Kidman admitted she knew the young actress well 'because I was engaged to her father'.

Well, Lenny and Lisa might not have bagged the job this time but at least they’re lucky enough to be Zoe’s proud parents IRL.
