By now, we all know that Kim Kardashian has a taste for vintage and archival fashion: whether it's wearing Marilyn Monroe's dress to the Met Gala or teaming up with Dolce & Gabbana to curate a fashion week retrospective of their most famous pieces (and wearing a couple of 'em too!).

Now, Kim has taken this passion to new heights, paying £163,800 for the Attallah Cross, a statement pendant made by luxury jewellery designer Garrard and made from square-cut amethysts and circular-cut diamonds. The cross features a whopping 5.25 carats worth of diamonds and dates back to the 1920s!

While this cross is, in itself, a stunning piece of jewellery, there's one major detail: it was worn on several occasions by Princess Diana. She was friends with the owner of this piece of jewellery, Naim Attallah, who loaned it to her on multiple occasions - including to a London charity gala in October 1987.

The necklace was on sale via the auctioneers Sotheby’s, in their royal and noble sale. The cross was competed for by four bidders in the last five minutes of the auction, before being won by Kim's representative.

The excitement about the piece is no surprise given how rare jewellery like this really is. The head of jewellery at Sotheby’s London Kristian Spofforth underscored the pendant's value ahead of the sale by saying; 'Jewellery owned or worn by the late Princess Diana very rarely comes on to the market, especially a piece such as the Attallah cross, which is so colourful, bold and distinctive.'
