Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever has cast I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel.

The exciting news was reported by Variety who added that, as per usual with Marvel, character details are being kept under wraps.

Coel is thought to have joined director Ryan Coogler at Atlanta's Pinewood Studios, where production began last month.

The writer and actor was recently nominated for multiple Emmy awards for her groundbreaking BBC drama, and also walked away with two BAFTA awards earlier this year.

Though filming has started on Wakanda Forever, not much is known about the film's plot or how it will address T'Challa's absence following Chadwick Boseman's tragic passing.

However, one thing we do know is that Wakanda Forever will feature the aquatic villain Namor, with official plot details recently emerging via Production Weekly.

'Both Wakanda and Atlantis are hidden civilisations with advanced technology and increased militaristic abilities that decided to separate themselves from the rest of the world for their own safety, and in a way, out of fear,' the details read.

Meanwhile, Winston Duke, who played Jabari leader M'Baku, has confirmed he will be back for the sequel.

Speaking about beginning work on the film following the death of Boseman, Duke said: 'It was very emotional to read the script.

'It was emotional to pack to go back to set. But we're all a bit of a family now and we grieve together, and we're making something really special.'

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has a release date of July 8, 2022. The first movie is streaming now on Disney+.
