In addition to BBC newsreaders wearing black while sharing the news of his death, the royal family website temporarily stopping and flags being lowered at half mast at both Buckingham Palace and parliament, tributes have also been flooding in for the late Prince from notable people around the world over the weekend, which you can read here:
Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales
Appearing outside his home at Highgrove on Sunday evening, Prince Charles - the eldest son of the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen - addressed the awaiting press with a tribute to his father.
Princess Anne, the Princess Royal
The Duke of Edinburgh's only daughter, Anne issued a statement calling her father, 'my teacher, my supporter and my critic'.
You know it’s going to happen but you are never really ready. My father has been my teacher, my supporter and my critic, but mostly it is his example of a life well lived and service freely given that I most wanted to emulate.
His ability to treat every person as an individual in their own right with their own skills comes through all the organisations with which he was involved. I regard it as an honour and a privilege to have been asked to follow in his footsteps and it has been a pleasure to have kept him in touch with their activities. I know how much he meant to them, in the UK, across the Commonwealth and in the wider world.
I would like to emphasise how much the family appreciate the messages and memories of so many people whose lives he also touched. We will miss him but he leaves a legacy which can inspire us all.
Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew
Andrew and Edward, the youngest sons of Prince Philip, spoke to Sky News outside a church service in Windsor on Sunday.
Prince Andrew said his father's death has left a 'void', while Prince Edward, accompanied by his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex and their daughter Lady Louise who looked visibly upset, called his father's death a 'dreadful shock', adding it was 'very, very sad' but thanked the public for their tributes.
Edward and Sophie also gave an update on the Queen, saying she was 'thinking of others before herself, as always'.
The Royal Family, including Clarence House and Kensington Palace
The social media accounts for both Clarence House - where Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall reside - and Kensington Palace, the office of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, simply shared a photograph of the royal with the official statement.

In a statement issued on the White House website, 46th president Joe Biden has paid tribute to Prince Philip in a statement.
On behalf of all the people of the United States, we send our deepest condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the entire Royal Family, and all the people of the United Kingdom on the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Over the course of his 99-year life, he saw our world change dramatically and repeatedly. From his service during World War II, to his 73 years alongside the Queen, and his entire life in the public eye — Prince Philip gladly dedicated himself to the people of the UK, the Commonwealth, and to his family. The impact of his decades of devoted public service is evident in the worthy causes he lifted up as patron, in the environmental efforts he championed, in the members of the Armed Forces that he supported, in the young people he inspired, and so much more. His legacy will live on not only through his family, but in all the charitable endeavours he shaped.
Jill and I are keeping the Queen and Prince Philip’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in our hearts during this time.
