**Tiger King spoilers follow.**

Legendary documentarian Louis Theroux has a problem with Netflix's smash-hit series Tiger King.

The streaming giant has a true phenom on its hands, with 64 million views in the first month spawning spin-off shows, comic books and even a potential new series for its subject Joe Exotic.

One aspect of controversial zoo owner Joe Exotic's story that isn't quite as widely known is that it has been told before… by filmmaker Louis Theroux in the equally-bizarre BBC series America's Most Dangerous Pets.

Theroux has had a chance to compare his own film to Tiger King – and he seems to think the Netflix show comes up short in one crucial aspect.

"I did think the tiger perspective was slightly lost, that was my little quibble," he told The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show. "I sort of thought there is an animal rights story here which they kind of did at the end a bit but you didn't see the foreground."

However, he did point out: "I feel bad even raising that because I thought it was an amazing piece of multi-episode storytelling of the type that I would aspire to do. I thought it was an entertaining and amazing romp through this netherworld of big cat owners and it really gripped my attention."

Theroux has also previously been slightly critical of Tiger King presenting theories from multiple people that Big Cat Rescue owner Carole Baskin murdered her former husband Don Lewis.

"My opinion is, [the theory] seems very unlikely," the filmmaker recently weighed in.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness is now streaming on Netflix.
