Reese Witherspoon lead the tributes to Meryl Streep yesterday as the actress celebrated her 70th birthday.

Witherspoon involved the whole Big Little Lies cast in the festivities, asking them all to share their favourite Meryl Streep films in honour of her milestone birthday. She published the results in a series of videos on her Instagram Stories.

"Kramer vs Kramer, Out of Africa, Sophie's Choice, Adaptation," Nicole Kidman immediately reels off, before adding; "Silkwood and Postcards from the Edge." Laura Dern then jumps in with Julia and Deer Hunter.

Meryl Streep joined the cast of Big Little Lies series two, playing the grieving mother-in-law of Nicole Kidman's character Celeste. After the first episode aired, fans were already calling for Streep to win an Emmy.
