Selena Gomez has been absent from all of award season so far, but Oscars night offered her the opportunity to make her return either at the ceremony or, more likely, at one of the big after parties. But Gomez chose to skip the Academy Awards red carpet at least, remaining offline and out of sight when the L.A. event was happening.
There's a pretty understandable reason why Gomez wasn't at the Academy Awards ceremony. Gomez has no nominations there, and there's no requirement either for her to attend the award show or any after parties.
Gomez has also kept a low-profile since she returned to the public eye in December after taking two months off to get treatment for her mental health. She did make a rare public appearance this week at her best friend Courtney Barry's wedding. Gomez was Barry's maid of honor and wore a gorgeous embellished black dress. Gomez herself did not share photos, but her friends and fellow wedding guests did.

Gomez has attended Vanity Fair's Oscars after party before and has a long history of going, actually. So it's not completely out of the question she could make a surprise appearance later. It'd be her first red carpet event of the year.
