Meghan Markle's first official solo outing with the Queen saw the duo travel by royal train to Cheshire on Thursday.

While Kate Middleton has yet to travel on the royal train, according to the Express, her first solo outing with Queen Elizabeth was, in many ways, similar to Meghan's.

On March 8, 2012, the Duchess of Cambridge traveled with Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to Leicester, as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tour, which celebrated her 60 years on the throne so far.

First, the Queen and Kate were spotted at London's St. Pancras Station, as they journeyed to De Montfort University and Leicester Cathedral. They were subsequently pictured throughout the day looking very jovial together.

The major difference between Kate's first official solo outing with the Queen, and Meghan's, is that the Duchess of Cambridge had already been married to Prince William for almost a year when she attended the engagement. Conversely, Meghan wed Prince Harry less than a month ago, on May 19, 2018, meaning that the Duchess of Sussex has taken part in her first solo royal outing far quicker than Kate did.

While Meghan wore custom Givenchy for her solo outing with the Queen, Kate opted for a teal suit by L.K.Bennett, with a James Lock hat. Notably, Meghan didn't wear a hat for her day trip with Queen Elizabeth, striking a much more casual look than the Duchess of Cambridge did.

The Duchesses may have very different styles, but the Queen seemed impressed and content attending royal events with both Meghan and Kate.
