The year of Beychella, Black Panther and liberated Afros, 2018 seems to be a breakthrough year for diversity and representation in the media. But while people of colour are taking centre stage in many walks of life, behind the scenes it’s a different story, particularly in journalism.

Any BAME writer who has felt this struggle will already be well aware of Liv Little, who at just 24 is the founder and editor-in-chief of gal-dem, the award-winning magazine that gives women of colour a voice.

Born out of a frustration with the lack of diversity in the industry, Liv created gal-dem as a platform for women of colour to write and connect with a worldwide audience. An inspirational pursuit that has seen her win accolades left, right and centre – the latest being a spot on the inaugural ELLE List in association with THEOUTNET.COM.
