The shiny hue is breaking out of its disco credentials to become a daytime option that all of us should consider to enliven the nine-to-five. This is the only shade that can maximise the spring sunshine we've long been anticipating to dazzle even the most reluctant magpie.

Wearing silver is a striking proposition. We're not used to wearing it beyond the Christmas party season so adding it into the springtime wardrobe can feel jarring. Perhaps a little too 'look at me' to get about on the daily? But, just as it was first propositioned on the catwalk, there's a way to get around that and make it not only a must-wear shade but an easy-to-wear one, too.

As with most trends, silver is all about how you wear it and what you pair it with. If you're going to make like the street style set, who have eagerly adopted the shade to arrive at the fashion shows taking place right now, then it's all about dressing down the metallics with wholesome textures (cashmere, duh!) in neutral tones or adding in sportswear pieces that clash in context. Think a silver skirt worn with an Adidas jacket à la super stylist Katie Grand or a metallic bra (go on, give it a go) clashing against a tweed suit like Amalie Gassmann. It's less about the colours you pair it with, as silver makes for a pretty convincing neutral and so it's more about the feel of the garments.
This is exactly how it was delivered on the catwalk, too. Silver often finds its way into the collections as an evening option across cocktail dresses or trailing gowns but at the SS25 shows it was given that casual sensibility that the world's best dressed have fast adopted. At Rabanne, the original purveyor of all things chrome and covetable, Julien Dossena took the house's signature silver and paired it with a throw-over parka-style jacket. Similarly, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons at Prada paired what is a £20,000-plus silver embellished dress with a lightweight sports jacket. It's a clash that's more convincing than controversial.
If you're ready to dabble in being a human disco ball then know it's best to take on silver in a singular piece. Maybe you introduce the trend into your look with a pair of silver slingbacks or you'll carry a metallic Marc Jacobs Stam bag (very Y2K and very, very fabulous). Accessories are the gateway to the trend, but a skirt is the one to reach for to truly tick the trend box. Find one in your favourite silhouette and go from there.
