Doing away with outdated beauty ideals and stereotypes about 'age-appropriate' dressing, this new wave of silver street style stars are all about embracing their grey hair, wrinkles and older bodies rather than trying to hide them away – and experimenting with hot new trends, bold colours and edgy silhouettes to boot.
These women are bringing a fresh new energy to the fashion circuit – not to mention decades of experimentation and style knowledge – and quite frankly, we can't get enough. Grece Ghanem
If you've started noticing an impeccably dressed, silver-haired woman popping up all over your social media feed of late, most likely it's Grece Ghanem. The 60-year-old Lebanon-born, Canada-based former microbiologist is by far one of the hottest faces in the fashion industry right now, a front row regular and street style star par excellence.
With her penchant for playful looks and bold, ultra-luxe accessories – as well as the conviction that 'style has no age' – it's little surprise that Ghanem has proven to be catnip for photographers and brands alike. This year alone, she has collaborated with the likes of On, Messika and Estée Lauder, attended multiple Fashion Weeks and jetted between countless glamorous events and destinations – all while sharing her daily looks with her 1.8 million Instagram followers.
Dr. Qin Huilan
Dr. Qin Huilan first burst onto the fashion scene earlier this year, when she received a DM inviting her to walk in Miu Miu's AW24 show in Paris. The moment she emerged onto the runway, head held high and clad in a smart, brooch-covered wool coat, a star was born – and we've been avid followers of the Guangxi-born, 70-year-old doctor ever since.
Now, she's swapped her scrubs for a seat on the front row, and embarked on a second career as a model and fashion influencer with a fast-growing fanbase. Her wardrobe is best described as eclectic and experimental, featuring cult classics from Prada and Miu Miu (naturally) styled with menswear borrowed from her son.
Renia Jaz
A self-proclaimed 'ageism fighter', Renia Jaz is best-known by her Instagram handle, @venswifestyle. Indeed, it was thanks to this very social media platform that the Poland-born, Northumberland-based content creator made a name for herself in the fashion industry – and simultaneously proved that style shouldn't be dictated by a number.
Despite being a lifelong lover of fashion and dressing up, it was only after she turned 50 that Jaz took her family's advice to begin sharing her looks online. Soon enough, she became a style inspiration go-to for women of all ages, and continues to be one of the most-photographed show attendees still today. Jaz's signatures at 59? A big smile, bold red lip, and total fearlessness in the face of even the most out-there trends.
Mette Sørrig
For a fresh take on Scandi girl cool, look no further than Mette Sørrig. In fact, you'd be able to spot the Copenhagen-based digital creator from a mile off, thanks to her love of highlighter-bright hues, loud patterns, statement textures and unique vintage finds that stand her well apart in a sea of neutrals and minimalism.
Formerly a medical industry professional, the mother-of-two is now a street style fixture in the Danish capital and beyond, not to mention a constant inspiration to her 80,000-plus Instagram followers, too. JoAni Johnson
JoAni Johnson made headlines back in 2019 when, aged 67, she was selected to be one of the faces of Rihanna's Fenty brand – and she's been one of the most in-demand fashion models ever since. Now in her seventies, Harlem-born Johnson juggles major advertising campaigns, editorial shoots and catwalk appearances with her work as an activist, tea blender and jewellery designer, while also documenting her journey (and outfits) along the way.
As for her personal style, it's all about cool, oversized tailoring, just-dropped streetwear, a smattering of bang-on-trend accessories (think jelly shoes and Tabis), and her glorious, hip-length grey hair rightfully front and centre.
Linda Fargo
An icon of the New York fashion scene, Linda Fargo has been one of the top dogs at Bergdorf Goodman for more than 20 years – so it only follows that she have truly impeccable taste. Think Upper East Side chic but with a big dose of fun, that's regularly snapped by street style photographers as she rushes between shows each season.
And as Fargo edges towards her Seventies, her enjoyment of fashion and creativity is showing no signs of slowing. See: the businesswoman in head-to-toe gold Schiaparelli for a recent gala dinner, and the nude, crystal-covered unitard she wore to last year's Met Gala after party.
Yasmin Furmie
Yasmin Furmie is already big in South Africa, but it won't take long before her stylish aesthetic and infectious personality go trans-Atlantic, too. Having once worked as a social worker, the 61-year-old turned her attentions to fashion little more than a decade ago when she launched a sustainable clothing brand with her best friend – and her profile has continued to grow ever since.
Now, she delights her tens of thousands of fans with outfit videos and styling tips, experimenting with fashion-forward silhouettes and patterns with panache. We love her peroxide crop and how she uses trainers to add an element of effortless cool to outfits, too.
Naito Saori
Prepare for a serious spike in joy-inducing fashion on your Instagram feed once you start following Naito Saori. With her daughter on hand to take photos and curate her feed, the 74-year-old can dedicate her time to what she does best: putting together outfits fabulous and bold enough to break any remaining stereotypes about style in your seventies.
The 74-year-old must surely have one of the most vast and varied wardrobes in Japan, if her daily-changing looks are anything to go by. This is the kind of woman who can happily wear a crumpled Jonathan Anderson graphic tee one minute and a beige suit with Schiaparelli earrings the next, before changing into a gold mini-skirt with platform boots for dinner out.
