The 2021 awards season is off to a delayed start with the first big ceremony of the Hollywood calendar officially taking place this weekend.
The 78th Golden Globe awards will air on Sunday, February 28. Things are expected to look different with hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey jointly presenting from different coasts of the US and a mix of virtual and in-person presenting and attending.
One thing we're still likely to see though, if prior socially-distanced shows are anything to go by, are incredible red carpet dresses.
The Golden Globes - a less formal occasion than the Oscars but still an event where the A-list like to make their mark on the red carpet - has typically seen more daring fashion choices than the Academy Awards, but often still with a degree of Hollywood glamour leading to many memorable looks over the years.

Cher - 1976
The star wouldn't win her first Golden Globe until 1988 (for Moonstruck) but she attended in 1976 in this now unforgettable crop top and trouser combination.
Oprah Winfrey - 1986
The actor and TV personality attended the ceremony in the late 1980s when she was nominated for her role as a supporting actress in The Colour Purple.
In 2018, the veteran talk show host was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement at the ceremony.

Goldberg was awarded the Best Actress in a Motion Picture or Drama Golden Globe for her role in Steven Spielberg's The Colour Purple.
Julia Roberts - 1990
To pick up her first ever Golden Globe (for Steel Magnolias), Roberts shunned the typical red carpet dress for an oversized Armani grey suit.
Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox - 1996
The cast were first nominated for a Golden Globe in 1996, two years after their legendary sitcom premiered.

Still in her Destiny's Child heyday, Beyoncé attended the 2001 Golden Globes in a red wrap dress with a floral design.
Anne Hathaway - 2003
The Princess Diaries alum made like Bey and also went for a bright coloured dress with a thigh slit, by Elie Saab, for her first Golden Globes.
Sandra Oh - 2003
The Killing Eve star - who at this point was best known for her role in Grey's Anatomy - wore a satin burgundy cold-shoulder gown for her first Golden Globes. In 2006, Oh won her first Globe for her hospital drama role, and then again 13 years later in 2019 for Killing Eve.
Salma Hayek - 2003
Hayek matched the red carpet in a divine plunging red column dress by Narciso Rodriguez for her Golden Globes debut.
Scarlett Johansson - 2004
The actor wore a Stella McCartney beige-coloured structured gown with an asymmetric hem for her first Globes (where she was nominated twice, both for Girl With The Pearl Earring and Lost In Translation).
