It was just three short months ago that Addison Rae took to Instagram to share a photo of herself wearing a cone bra top, instantly drawing comparisons to Madonna in the process. The garment is so closely associated with the singer after she donned a custom Jean Paul Gaultier pink satin bodysuit featuring a cone bra during her 1990 Blond Ambition tour.

Fast forward to today – well, technically yesterday [Thursday 8 August] – and the TikTok star turned artist has channelled Madonna yet again. This time, sporting a dusty pink ruched crop top with conical bra cups extending ridiculously far from her chest to attend the Variety Power of Young Hollywood event. The design is from the Jean Paul Gaultier x Lotta Volkova collaboration, released in May 2022 and that saw the Russian stylist (famed for her work with Miu Miu, Balenciaga and Vetements) reimagine signature JPG archival pieces.

Addison paired the top with high-waist velvet trousers in a complimentary merlot hue and matching patent peep-toe heeled mules. She skipped all accessories, letting her top take centre stage and, no joke, the cups could easily take an eye out from a metre away – or at the very least, potentially impale a passerby.

Here's a side angle to better illustrate just how far from Addison's chest the conical cups protrude:

Despite Madonna being considered the official poster girl of the look, Gaultier had been experimenting with cone bras and corsets in his work for years prior after being inspired by the bullet bras worn by Hollywood stars in the '40s and '50s to create an exaggerated feminine silhouette. His September 1984 show saw one of the fashion designer's early iterations of the style, sending a model down the runway in a velvet orange dress featuring wrapped extra-long conical cups similar to those on Addison's top.

It's not quite the celebs wearing vintage trend, but there's no denying Addison's look is vintage-inspired. That's worth of an A for effort in our books!
