One of the most stellar nights in the fashion calendar, The Fashion Awards, is almost upon us and this year’s cohort of nominees has officially been revealed.
On December 4, the highly anticipated 2023 Fashion Awards will be taking place at The Royal Albert Hall once again, and leading tastemakers from the world of fashion will come together to recognise pioneers redefining the industry, and honour a selection of established emerging talent.
Guests will gather in the renowned hall – no doubt all of whom will be clad in breath-taking outfits – to celebrate this year’s nominees, with categories including Model of the Year, British Menswear Designer, British Womenswear Designer, the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, Outstanding Achievement Award and Leader of Change to name a few, with winners to be announced on the night.

Revered designer Simone Rocha, already a recipient of the prestigious Designer of The Year award, has been nominated again for the award due to her phenomenal craftsmanship and expressed her gratitude to the BFC for the acclaim. ‘I’m really delighted to be nominated and I’m delighted for my team that all our creativity and hard work is recognised,’ she told ELLE UK.’ The Irish designer has a throng of achievements under her belt, and a stream of milestones from this year alone that she looks back on fondly. ‘A few standout moments for me this year include launching our menswear, designing and collaborating with Billie Eilish on her look for the Met Gala, and our womenswear show in February.’
In a bid to acknowledge changemakers transforming the landscape of British fashion, and creating a new movement, two new categories have been created this year: New Establishment Menswear and the New Establishment Womenswear.
Robert Wun, who held his inaugural haute couture show in Paris this year, innovative menswear designer Bianca Saunders, Corteiz, the label changing the face of streetwear, and Chopova Lowena, a label rooted in British and Bulgarian craftsmanship, are among the nominees. ‘It's an incredible honour to be nominated for a Fashion Award this year, we're very excited!’ said Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, the duo behind the label, which launched in 2017. It’s been a busy year for the pair whose accomplishments comprise turning their hands to publishing to launch their debut book Conversations with Angels. ‘Producing [the book] was a highlight from our past year. We collaborated with Charlotte Wales, Chloë Sevigny and Precious Okoyomon.’
The annual event is a momentous night not only for designers, but is a way for the BFC Foundation to nurture and expand the breadth of British fashion talent, in addition to providing financial support. Currently, the BFC Foundation aims to raise £2 million every year to facilitate growth and increase its grant-giving programmes.
