Vintage pieces from the 'enfant terrible' of fashion, the legendary Jean Paul Gaultier, have been enjoying a revival in recent months – worn by the likes of Bella Hadid, Dua Lipa and none other than Carrie Bradshaw herself in an episode of And Just Like That. Perhaps it's the resurgence of Nineties and Noughties style that has led to this renewed interest in JPG's early designs, coupled with the fact that the brand launched its own rental and resale service last year, making its vintage designs more accessible than ever.
Or perhaps, most simply, it's the fact that the designer just has so many iconic looks and prints in his repertoire. Glenn Martens, the creative director of Y/Project, certainly thinks so – and the two designers recently announced a collaboration for Jean Paul Gaultier's upcoming haute couture show, for which Martens will act as creative director for one season only.
And in return? Yesterday's Y/Project menswear show in Paris was positively brimming with vintage JPG, including a number of his iconic trompe l'oeil body prints reimagined in colourful graphics for the modern day. The penis pants, in particular, will delight OG fans and newcomers alike.
