However, today Bella Hadid provided us with irrefutable evidence. The hearsay is true: low-rise trousers aren't just back on the runway, they're back on the streets.
The 23-year-old sauntered out during Men's fashion week in Paris wearing sea-blue suit trousers so low it looks like they might well have had a fight with her top.

Last seen in the noughties, a decade the Michael Kors model often takes style cues from, low-rise trousers continue to be a sartorial question mark for many.
First debuted in Alexander McQueen's ‘The Taxi Driver’ AW 1993 show (his were the dramatic 'bumsters'), it was not until the 2000's when celebrities like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Jennifer Lopez adopted, and pretty much trademarked, the silhouette.
However, as the teenies rolled on, navel-baring (and super skinny) trousers rolled out, with super-high waisted so-called 'mom' jeans reigning supreme.
That was until around 2017, when Man Repeller began noticing their return. Fashion Director and Brand Strategist Harling Ross wrote of the revival: 'Here I was, innocently assuming we’d learned our lesson after the low-rise tragedy of the late ’90s/early naughts.'
But it looks like we haven't, learned our lesson that is.
Spotted since the SS2017 shows of designers like Alexander McQueen (them again), Tommy Hilfiger, and Dior and on the backsides of Emily Ratajkowski, it looks like it's been a slow but steady rise to this moment. And, last spring, we saw models on the Alexander McQueen, Y/Project and Zimmerman runways all baring their bellies.
Ready to join them? Bella certainly is.
