In the last decade, ASOS has become a treasure cave destination for fashion lovers around the world. Approximately 16.5 million of us it daily.

So it comes as no surprise that the online fashion giant wants to ensure we're being as sustainable as we possibly can be - particularly when climate change is unpredictably rocky.

In a pledge to provide ASOS designers with the best practice and tools, they've teamed up with London College of Fashion’s Centre for Sustainable Fashion.

Together the two giants will pilot a training programme for their designers.

Vanessa Spence, Design Director at ASOS told ELLE UK, ‘With this pilot we’re making sure our designers have the knowledge and skills they need to put sustainability and circularity into practice.’

In line with their sustainability initiative (which was signed at last year’s Copenhagen Fashion Summit) ASOS is on a ‘journey to designing products with circularity in mind right from the start, which will ensure that they are made responsibly, remain in use for as long as possible once they’re sold, and don’t cause unnecessary waste at the end of their lives,’ said Spence.

Stepping into the world of sustainability is a major game-changer for ASOS. It also sets an example for other online fashion retailers to follow, ensuring their trade and design process wastes as little as possible.

As Dilys Williams, Director of CSF and Professor of Fashion Design for Sustainability at LCF, explains, ‘It’s vitally important that dynamic and forward-thinking companies such as ASOS innovate from a critically-informed perspective.

'Good design involves understanding and valuing all elements that come together in making and enjoying fashion.’
