Perhaps an unlikely pairing at first glance, but last night saw a fashion match made in heaven with Dover Street Market celebrating Hello! magazine’s 30th birthday, with a charity auction and an all-star guest list.
We know what you're thinking. Mel B, Binky Felstead, Rod Stewart and Tamara Ecclestone rubbing shoulders with Molly Goddard and a pair of Comme des Gaçons drop-crotch pants? Correct. The best of fashion and day-time telly in one room.
It was a coming together of everything high-brow and showbiz. On the fashion front, Charles Jeffrey, who produced Hello! mag merch for the charity auction, was also there DJ'ing. "It is really amazing. It is really nice to see these two worlds come together, why can’t they?” He told ELLE after his set. “Why can’t someone like Lady Victoria Harvey sit next to or even wear a Comme des Garçons dress? I think it is really fabulous!”

You can feel like a star yourself with the auction prizes: a beauty consultation with Dame Joan Collins, a one-on-one shopping experience with Sarah Jessica Parker at the SJP Collection showroom in New York, tickets to David Beckham's next Kent & Curwen show at men's fashion week, and a personal fitting with Beyonce-favourite Peter Dundas in his atelier.
DSM is known for its premium stock of critically acclaimed designers, from the established Comme Des Garçons, Alaïa and Dior to the newer Molly Goddard and Simone Rocha.
To fête Hello! magazine's 'birthday', the retailer also collaborated with Stella McCartney, Charles Jeffrey and Ashley Williams to create merchandise inspired by Hello!’s bold logo, with caps, t-shirts and key-rings. It's all for a good cause, with 50% of all revenue going to the Sentebale charity, where Prince Harry is a founding patron, and 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund.
Rosie Nixon, Editor of Hello! told Elle that she met Adrian Joffe about a year ago. 'We had a chat and he told me he was a fan of Hello!, which is music to my ears. I told him it was our 30th anniversary next year, and we came up with the idea then and there. Thankfully he still liked the idea the next day.'
Hello! magazine, in its 30-years, has established itself as the household gossip magazine. Jeffrey’s earliest memory of the title is from his childhood, “My mum and grandmother always had Hello! Magazine, I have always remembered it since I was a baby, as well as an angsty teen reading it on the toilet. It has had many places in my life.”
The magazine has weaved itself into British culture, and remains a stalwart of British publishing. Debbie Bright (yes, she of The Only Way is Essex fame) sums it up nicely: “I haven’t had a Sunday without a cup of tea and Hello! Magazine.”
Well, now the duo behind Chaos, Katie Lyall and Charlotte Stockdale, have produced a limited edition magazine in honour of the DSM-Hello! hook-up, it has some serious fashion cred. So we expect we won't go a Sunday without reading it either.
