When it comes to otherworldly, fantastical make-up looks that look equally as epic alongside haute couture corsets as they do in the midst of a fairytale music video, there's no one that can put on a show quite like Pat McGrath. And clearly Taylor Swift agrees. Looking to the legendary MUA and 'Mother' of make-up to bring her latest music video 'Bejeweled' to life, Swift transforms on screen from a scruffy Cinderella to a blinged out crystal queen, thanks to a series of impeccable beauty looks.

Proving that all things glitter and sparkle will never go out of fashion, McGrath took the title of Swift's single from her tenth album, Midnights, and ran with it. Think ultra embellished cat eyes, intergalactic starry sky eyeshadow, the ultimate old Hollywood glamour red lip and more diamanté than you can shake Cinder's broom at.

Below, ELLE UK caught up with make-up icon McGrath to find out the secrets behind Taylor's 'Bejeweled' beauty...

On the brief Taylor gave her...

'Taylor is the most divine collaborator and a superb director. She is meticulous, thorough and detailed. My goal was to use make-up to communicate Taylor’s unique vision - after designing approximately 30 looks, my team and I got together and did what we love best. We experimented with colours, shapes, ombrés and all sorts of eyeshadows from my Mothership Eye Palettes and my Christmas MTHRSHP Celestial Nirvana Eye Palette. I could do that everyday for someone as wonderful as Taylor – it was so much fun!'

On what inspired Taylor's make-up looks...

'The inspiration came from Taylor herself, the song’s title, and the lyrics: 'Best believe I'm still bejewelled when I walk in the room/I can still make the whole place shimmer...'

'I also went into my own archive, thinking about contoured red ombré lips, jewelled smoke, crystal cat eyes, sublime skin and divine blush. With all that inspiration and Taylor’s brief, I had a million ideas of how we could use make-up to communicate her directorial vision and storytelling through make-up artistry. I’m so excited to see everyone’s interpretation of these gorgeous looks.'

On creating Taylor's red lip look...

'We took her signature lip to the next level by using LiquiLUST: Legendary Wear Matte Lipstick ELSON 4 and then created what I call a “contour-Ombré” lip with three different shades of my PermaGel Ultra Glide Lip Pencils in Deep Dive and Blood Lust and Deep Void.'
