45 Of The Best Bob Hairstyles To Inspire Your 2025 Haircut

No matter your hair type, there truly is a bob for everyone.

By , and Lucy Partington

The bob haircut shocked society when it was first created by Polish-born hairdresser Antoine de Paris in France in 1909, and it's been in fashion ever since.

In 2025, the bob continues to be one of the hottest hairstyles to have; whether you opt for the voluminous '90s bob, a sharp micro bob or a subtle graduated bob - this haircut is ever evolving and guarantees to have something for every hair type from Afro to thin strands.

What is a bob?

A bob denotes a haircut that usually sits at or around the chin. It became a powerful symbol in the 1920s, when women broke free from sartorial constraints and began experimenting with their clothing and hairstyles alike. In a former life, it was a simple one-length short cut, but today sees every kind of new iteration to choose from - from French bobs to choppy bobs and the modern blunt bob.

'There are a few reasons for the resurgence of the bob,' says A-list hairstylist Paul Edmonds. 'Firstly, every woman I meet has been growing their hair for what seems like forever, so I think the new bob worn blunt with soft internal layers gives them the chance to have a haircut that can be worn in many ways, without having to grow it.'

Which bob hairstyle suits best for my face shape?

As any hairstylist worth their salt will tell you, there is no specific rulebook when it comes to your hair - the look that suits you is an entirely personal choice.

That said, if you are wondering which bob to go for, there are a few things to note: while typically a classic, one-length bob suits heart-shaped, square and round faces, if your face is rounder you may want to opt for a lob (long bob) and square shaped faces could consider an even shorter micro-bob to soften the jawline.

What are the best bob haircuts in 2025?

Making a convincing case for the versatile and ever chic bob, stars like Kendall Jenner, Rihanna and Selena Gomez have jumped to the top of our haircut mood boards. From elegant curved ends to modern flipped tips, this chin-length bob cut is ultra-flattering and can be styled both effortlessly and totally amped up.

'Bobs are so versatile. You could have a French girl jaw-length flared out bob, or Charlize Theron's sleek slicked back at the sides with some height at the top bob,' explains Edmonds.
