The Best Products For Frizzy Hair On The Planet

Including the 20-second treatment I can no longer live without

a group of products for frizzy hair

For me, the elusive 'good hair day' translates as a bouncy head of natural curls, neatly defined and full of movement – but more often than not, a halo of frizz emerges to spoil the look by lunchtime, especially when there's a sudden shower and a humid Central Line commute on the cards. In fact, a glance at the forecast is usually enough to have me blow-drying my hair poker-straight, before slicking it back in the hope it'll remain looking somewhat groomed until my last meeting of the day.

Frizzy hair products, at a glance

Frizz affects us all in differing degrees, depending on our hair type and condition. If the UK's current unpredictable climes have had you wondering how to finally stop frizzy hair for good, you're in the right place. I've tried just about every hack, technique and product for frizzy hair under the sun, so have a pretty good grasp on the ones that really work.

First, get yourself a decent shampoo for frizzy hair. Then, go all in on anti-static, anti-fluff styling products that'll seal each strand from moisture in the air (whether it's holiday humidity or Great British drizzle). Look for moisture shields lanolin and silicone on the back of the bottle – yes, silicones can be a lifesaver – as well as nourishing hair oils to seal dry lengths and split ends in-between salon appointments.

How we test: frizzy hair products

I'd love to say I threw myself head-first into some kind of super-techy science experiment here, but the honest truth is, the good old British weather is enough to test even the very best products for frizzy hair. Each formula you see below has seen me through drizzly days and unpredictable storms on our soggy home soil: some I've been using religiously for years, while others are newer launches that have made it straight into my regular rotation. If it's not here, it didn't made the cut.

Below, see the best anti-frizz hair products I've tried, from hydrating masks to clever glycolic-acid hair innovations, and even a game-changing mist that'll define and de-puff curls without disrupting them.

The Very Best Products For Frizzy Hair

1
Best for hairlines and sleek updos

Briogeo Yuzu + Plum Oil Sleek Stick

On Sale
Yuzu + Plum Oil Sleek Stick

While there are many products out there that promise to magically deliver that perfectly sleek, perplexingly neat hair-up that only influencers appear to be able to manage, this is the only thing I've found that works on my truly frizzy curls and unruly hairline.

It looks like a Pritt Stick, applies like a Pritt Stick, yet absolutely does not feel like one once it's on your head. Somehow, it locks hair neatly into place, leaving behind neither a crispy gel-like shine or that awful flaky residue. Whether you're attempting a low-slung bun or a neat, high ponytail, it's up to the task.

2
Best for shine and smoothing

Amika Smooth Over Frizz Fighting Treatment

Glycolic acid for hair? Yes, it's now a thing. Amika's clever launch uses the skincare star to strengthen and smooth the roughed-up cuticles on damaged hair strands, stopping moisture from sneaking its way in and causing your meticulously straightened lengths to puff up. Apply it in-shower, after conditioning, and wait just ten seconds for it to do its best work. The result is hair that dries sleeker, smoother and shinier – and stays that way, whatever the weather.

Sam McKnight Cool Curls Revive Mist

Cool Curls Revive Mist

This clever water-weight mist is designed to tackle the frizz that forms in curly hair overnight, allowing you to quickly restore order and keep your texture looking as fresh at it did on wash day. With the Curly Girl Method seal of approval, it uses moisture-boosting ingredients that redefine and rehydrate without weighing down curls.

Best for glass hair

Matrix High Amplify, Shine & Rinse Lamellar Treatment

High Amplify, Shine & Rinse Lamellar Treatment

Lamellar waters are one of the most exciting hair innovations to emerge in recent years. Think of them as a watery conditioning treatment, working to repair damaged sections of hair while imparting smoothness and shine to rival a lengthy salon session.

Matrix's offering might not be the most well-known lamellar treatment out there, but the no-waste precision nozzle and sophisticated scent make it my top choice for smooth, seriously shiny hair.

Apply it to just-washed hair in the shower, letting it sit for just a few seconds before rinsing away, and follow up with conditioner if your hair is on the thicker (or more damaged) side. The transformation will have you converted after one use.

The social-media hype should tell you all you need to know about this one. A unique formula that really delivers, it contains a heat-activated polymer that essentially waterproofs each and every hair strand, preventing humidity and rain from spoiling your super-sleek style. Mist it in before using your hairdryer and heat tools for hair that feels weightless yet magically resists the urge to frizz.

Now, for those with an excessively rebellious mane, there's also an Extra Strength iteration. Seriously, if you're in any way sceptical about this one, take a look at the Tiktoks.

Gisou Honey Infused Leave In Conditioner

Honey Infused Leave In Conditioner

Made using honey from Negin Mirsalehi's family beehives (have you seen her hair?) this strand-nourishing conditioner feels light but is a heavy-hitter in the frizz-fighting stakes. A mega-moisturising formula, it'll add smoothness and shine, while making tangles a breeze to comb through. A good one for hair that's both fine and frizzy.

Redken Frizz Dismiss Instant Deflate Oil-In-Serum

Frizz Dismiss Instant Deflate Oil-In-Serum

Combining the silkening properties of a serum with the moisture-sealing benefits of an oil, this under-the-radar gem is ideal for extra-thick, super frizzy hair. Smoothed into damp lengths, it'll take down the puffiness that manifests after blow-drying, and when applied to dry hair it'll shield from rain-induced chaos.

Best for straightener addicts

Virtue Frizz Block Smoothing Spray

Frizz Block Smoothing Spray

A recent discovery from Virtue (aka every beauty ed's favourite hair line), this dual-phase frizzy hair treatment is activated by the heat from your hairdryer or straighteners, and wraps around each strand to form a protective shield against humidity. Not just a frizz-banishing wonder, it works to hydrate frazzled strands and delivers ample heat protection, too.

Best for quick fixes

Champo Leave-in Perfecting Cream

Champo Leave-in Perfecting Cream

It was Champo's Pitta Hair Growth Serum that first ignited my love affair, but I'm now equally attached to this effective frizz-fighting cream. It smells delicious and contains ingredients that claim to reinforce those weakened bonds, but the real reason I'm reaching for it most mornings is the fact it both eliminates frizz and makes dry, straw-like lengths look instantly shinier and healthier. You can use it on damp hair, but I find a single pump on dry lengths does the trick.

I recommend Kérastase’s curly hair line to anyone that needs mega moisture and extra bounce in their natural texture. One of the stars, this dense leave-in cream reduces puffiness and flyaways in naturally textured hair, without making curls crunchy or slimy: no easy feat.

16

Best for gentle hydration

Briogeo Farewell Frizz Rosarco Milk Leave-in Conditioning Spray

Farewell Frizz Rosarco Milk Leave-in Conditioning Spray

A milky formula will generally feel lighter than an oil-based one, which is welcome news for those with fine, flyaway hair. Briogeo's water-weight spray is one of the best: simply mist it over wet or dry lengths for a dose of frizz-smoothing hydration.

18
Best for a pre-shampoo treatment

Olaplex No.0 Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment

No.0 Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment
Now 20% Off

The entire Olaplex line is brilliant for frizz, but I think No.0 does the best job of smoothing fluff-prone hair. This liquid formula should be applied to clean, dry hair before stepping in the shower: shampoo and condition as usual, and you'll notice sleeker, less-tangled hair on drying.

The brand will tell you to layer this one up with the original No.3 treatment, honestly, the results are good enough without.
