These Are The Best And Chicest Hairstyles For Frizzy Hair
From romantic updos that leans into those wispy hairs to showstopping braids.

Frizzy hair gets a bad rep, but it is a completely natural reaction humidity in the air. Some hair types, such as wavy, fine, curly, and coily hair, are more susceptible to frizz purely due to the hair's natural pattern.
Legendary hairstylist Charlotte Mensah agrees. 'Normalising frizz is very important because hair strands are constantly being renewed. Instead of trying to change the hair, we need to change our perspective,' she tells ELLE. 'We should focus more on the hair's volume, shape, and movement rather than the frizz. A bit of frizz can enhance the beauty of your curls, making them look more natural, voluminous, and dynamic.'
How do you style frizzy-prone hair?
For straight and wavy locks, a neat, sleek bun is always chic. 'On damp strands, apply a nourishing treatment through the hair and either use a paddle brush or a Mason Pearson brush to work it through evenly,' says hairstylist Jonathon Eagland at Nicola Clarke salon. 'This will allow you ample control over your texture to be able to tie it in to a cute knot at the back of the head.' If you prefer a deep side parting or a defined middle part, use a tail comb before brushing the hair back. Then, secure with an elastic.
'The best thing about this look is it controls the texture and if you're in humidity and hot weather, it helps the treatment to penetrate further in to the hair,' says Eagland. You'll notice softer hair once you wash it at the end of the day.
Plaits are an easy, versatile style, too. You can wear this low on the nape of the neck, coiled into a chignon, just along the front of the face or even woven through with a scarf or ribbon. Eagland recommends slicking the flyaways down with either a light oil or soft wax. For an even smoother texture, prep with a hydrating cream, as moisturised hair are less likely to absorb water from the air (thus minimising frizz).
Don't be afraid to embrace the frizz, either. Instead of working against your natural texture, you can also lean into a more natural-looking style with a soft updo and let the halo of wispy hairs create a romantic effect.
For protective hairstyles for Black hair, Mensah is a fan of box brads, cornrows, Marley twists and faux locs. 'Once your hair is braided, you can work out, swim, and sweat without worrying about your hair,' she says. 'Braids can be styled into elaborate designs, curled styles, and adorned with ornaments such as beads, shells, pearls, and beyond.'
How to maintain hair health in humid weather
There are plenty of anti-humidity products for frizzy hair, but if you are putting your hair up (or keeping it in a protective style), it's crucial that you prioritise the hair's condition, too. Light hair oils and treatment creams will nourish without weighing the hair down. Mensah also recommends her Manketti Oil Hair Pomade to nurture your scalp while the hair is in a protective style. 'Apply the Manketti oil pomade on the hairline and edges to help tame and eliminate any flyaways, keeping your hairstyle neat and clean,' she says.
