'The buzz cut has become synonymous with female strength and they are fast becoming one of the most talked about cuts,' says TONI&GUY Creative Director, Cos Sakkas. 'Hair is, and always has been, a way of reflecting an identity. There is always a reason behind a woman choosing to go for a buzz cut; either a statement she is trying to make or a desire she has to wipe the slate clean.'

With everyone from models Ruth Bell and Adwoa Aboah, to Kristen Stewart and Katy Perry taking the plunge, it seems the buzz cut (ideally bleached blonde) is the 2021 haircut du jour.

'Zoe Kravitz looks great,' says Sakkas. 'Her cut is slightly longer than the traditional buzz cut, but is great for adding texture with softness through the fringe and around the hairline.'

So what you should you know if you're thinking of taking the plunge? 'Visit your hairdresser for a proper consultation beforehand, utilise their expertise; they will be able to recommend the right shape and length to suit you best,' advises Sakkas. 'When it comes to deciding which products to use on your buzz cut, make sure they’re natural and will a create softness; heavy products like wax will look gunky and old. Colour is another option to create softness and texture; buzz cuts always look great when they’ve been bleached.'
