14 Beauty Brands Showing Up To Support The Black Lives Matter Movement
The beauty brands donating money and time to the Black Lives Matter movement.
When social injustices like the death of George Floyd take place, it's a stark wake-up call that things still need to change, and desperately. In times like these, it's understandable that beauty can feel like a frivolous and frankly inappropriate part of our lives to consider, let alone care about. But, it's also important to remember that there is power in beauty. More than just dramatic Instagram makeovers and DIY hair cutting tutorials, beauty is a conversation starter, a social unifier, a record of our cultural history and, most importantly, has the power to incite change.
More than just performative support, these are the beauty brands putting their money where their mouth is to further the Black Lives Matter movement and end institutionalised racism in the UK and globally.
Charlotte Tilbury
Charlotte Tilbury made their commitment to Black Lives Matter known with an Instagram post confirming donations to three organisations that strive for change and racial justice: ACLU, Black Lives Matter and NAACP.
Clarins
Educational organisation, The Conscious Kid, that aims to reduce bias promote 'positive identity development in youth', announced on Instagram on Tuesday that beauty brand Clarins has donated $50,000 to support the charity's rent relief fund for Black families.
Tata Harper
Natural skincare brand Tata Harper showed their support for the Black Lives Matter movement with donations to five organisations working against racial injustice including:

Pixi Beauty
Cult skincare brand Pixi Beauty announced on Monday that they are making a donation to Color Of Change. The charity works to create 'campaigns powerful enough to end practices that unfairly hold Black people back, and champion solutions that move us all forward. Until justice is real.'
Pixi also posted the below statement confirming their support for the BLM movement:
'What affects one impacts everyone, whether directly or indirectly, and we stand alongside those fighting against injustice and racial discrimination. At Pixi, we believe in equality for all.
'We hear you, we see you and we support you.
'We are making a donation to @ColorOfChange to support their efforts. We believe in positive change and encourage you to join us in listening, learning and actively working towards a better world.
'Everyone has a responsibility to stand up, be heard and be the change, it cannot come soon enough.'
Space NK
Luxury beauty retailer Space NK has spoken out repeatedly on their social channels regarding George Floyd and the ongoing inequality and racism the Black community still endures.
Committing to pursuing change and combatting racial injustice, Space NK have donated money to Black Lives Matter.
REN Skincare
As well as posting a series of Instagram stories advising their followers on ways to take action, specifically how to become a non-optical ally, REN Skincare have donated to Black Lives Matter and encouraged others to do so as well.
The brand also shared the below statement:
'We stand in solidarity with you. We believe in justice for people + planet. It is not about staying silent. It’s about using our voice to make change. We refuse to accept that things can’t be changed.'
Urban Decay
Make-up brand Urban Decay acknowledged their Black colleagues, customers and community on Sunday, imploring their Instagram followers to 'speak up'. The brand have also donated to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, a community based nonprofit that combats the harms of incarceration by paying bail for low-income individuals who cannot afford it. Currently the American bail system disproportionately affects Black people.
Urban Decay also donated money to Black Lives Matter and encouraged their followers to read up on the situation and get involved via a link in bio to the BLM website.
Maybelline
Make-up powerhouse Maybelline is putting their money where its mouth is and donating to The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The NAACP is a civil rights organisation that aims 'to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.'
The brand announced their donation along with the following statement:
'At Maybelline we believe in inclusivity, equality and justice for all. Because of this, we will be donating to @naacp.Together we can make change happen. ❤'
NYX Cosmetics
Summarising all of our thoughts, NYX Cosmetics confirmed that they will be donating money to the Minnesota Freedom Fund and Black Lives Matter via an Instagram post that simply said 'It's not ok'.
Herbivore
In place of making a one off donation, Herbivore have committed 100% of their profits from last weekend to three separate charities, Black Lives Matter, the Minnesota Freedom Fund and the American Civil Liberties Union.
Herbivore posted a video on Instagram confirming their support with the statement:
'We stand with George Floyd and those who have lost their lives at the hands of racist police brutality.'
Sunday Riley
Skincare brand Sunday Riley announced a donation of $50,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund whilst also promising to work more locally in the brand's hometown of Houston.
Founder, Sunday Riley herself, posted a heartfelt statement alongside the donation:
'George Floyd and I are both from Houston. We actually both went to Lamar High School, though he graduated from Yates. We were separated by time. We weren’t the same age, we weren’t in the same year. But we walked the same hallways, maybe sat in the same classrooms, albeit at different moments in time. We had entirely different lives, different opportunities, and faced different challenges. Had we both been in the exact same situation, at the exact same moment, I think it would have ended differently for me. Actually, I know it would have. That reality pierces me to my core.⠀⠀Being from Houston, as a team, we want to support the black community locally and are looking for meaningful ways that we can support. Hopefully we’ll have something firmed up in the next day or so. But in recognition that this level of discrimination, hatred, and brutality is rampant across the entire United States, yesterday we made a $50,000 donation commitment to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. Glossier
Millennial pink beauty brand Glossier released a statement to their 2.8 million followers two days ago announcing that as well as donating $500,000 to organisations directly combating racism including Black Lives Matter, the brand has also set aside a further $500,000 in the form of grants that will be distributed to Black-owned beauty businesses.
Glossier have also delayed the launch of their latest product 'in an effort to focus attention, and that of their audience, on the ongoing fight against racial injustice.'
Nails Inc
During the entire month of June, Nails Inc will be donating 100% of their US profits from nailsinc.com to Black Lives Matter.
The iconic nail brand made the announcement on Instagram, saying:
'We stand with the fight against systematic racism.During the month of June, we will be donating 100% of all US profits from nailsinc.com to @blklivesmatter

Dermalogica
Skincare brand Dermalogica posted a black square as part of the Blackout Tuesday Instagram protest in honour of Black Lives Matter. Acknowledging that beauty brands haven't always had the courage to speak out, Dermalogica admitted they have a lot of work to do 'as a global company, as people'.
The brand's first steps include educating themselves, their followers and their employees by working with community leaders to have candid conversations about race.
Dermalogica have also committed to a donation to the NAACP, saying 'We stand with every individual using their voice to evoke change against hate and encourage others to do the same.'
