Zendaya and Tom Holland revealed they were engaged at the Golden Globe awards on January 5, when the actress walked the red carpet wearing her stunning engagement ring. A source speaking with Us Weekly indicated that the proposal happened after the couple had some serious discussions about what they want their future to look like, including thoughts on having children.
“Tom really wants to have a family, and [he] and Zendaya are on the same page about having kids and wanting to start a family together,” said the source. “Tom is absolutely in love with her... [he] is very focused on building a family and his career...Tom is [a] very old-school English guy in the way that he wants to have a family and have kids relatively young.”
Both Holland and Zendaya come from large families. The Spider-Man actor has three siblings, Harry, Sam, and Paddy. Zendaya is the only child of her parents Kazembe Ajamu Coleman and Claire Stoermer, but Coleman has five kids from a previous relationship, so she is often surrounded by her half-siblings.
Speaking with Men’s Health in early January, Holland was forthcoming about his intention to have children and shared a bit about how he imagined it would influence his career.
“When I have kids, you will not see me in movies anymore,” he shared. “Golf and dad. And I will just disappear off the face of the earth.”
After the engagement was confirmed, sources speaking with People stated that Holland had been “wanting to propose [to her] for a while now. He’s always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special.”
“Everyone close to them knew the engagement was happening,” the source added.
Another source told Entertainment Tonight that the actors are “ready and excited for this next chapter. Tom wanted to propose to her over the holidays. He really wants to have kids and to settle down.”
