Prada Gets Dark and Romantic for Fall

It was a story of contradictions on Prada’s fall runway: Cocktail dresses paired with dialed-down heavy combat boots opened the show. Military wool was softened by satin rosettes; Swaths of black lace gathered over starched shirt dresses. Every look offered a measured balance, folding gothic romance touches into an overarching utilitarianism theme. A continuation of Miuccia Prada's mens show, this collection heavily featured Frankenstein motifs. Wednesday Addams braids adorned half the model's heads to further drive home the dark romance.

While we generally love the complicated styling of Prada, this season’s tamed down collection has also been a highlight of Milan Fashion Week. Unassuming lace capes and green Linea Rossa sets will definitely be crowd pleasers and though army caps teamed with technicolor “hair” might not tempt most, you can bet those ‘90s satin totes adorned with three-dimensional flowers are It-bags in training.
