The Row seems to exist in a vacuum. The cult-loved line designed by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen doesn't respond to trends, it is unfazed by the whiplash changes affecting the fashion industry, and remains, for the most part, unattainably expensive. The clothes are also beautifully restrained and impeccably constructed. This fall collection leaned heavily on lean yet relaxed silhouettes distinguished by funnel necks and slightly belled sleeves, as well as sharply tailored suiting. A practically colorless palette enhanced the monastic austerity of it all.
I always prefer fall fashion because I love to look at the coats: a good coat has the power to dress up an otherwise unremarkable outfit. In this collection The Row offered up a fantasy parade of coats that, thrown over jeans and a t-shirt, would inject an effortless elegance.
