There’s been an delightful burst of color on the runway for Fall 2019, and Wes Gordon’s latest collection for Carolina Herrera took things to a whole other level. The designer opened his show with a yellow and blue floral tent dress and it was off to the races from there.
In the almost one year since Gordon was installed at the socialite-beloved brand, he has visibly loosened up things for the better. “Informed by the minimal poise and maximal drama of photographer Robert Mapplethorpe’s floral still lifes, the collection exudes the sublime presence of a bold spirit,” read the show notes. That meant bright floral mini cocktail dresses and super-sized shirt dresses, plus trousers with bold taffeta cummerbunds paired with Herrera’s signature white blouse. And of course there were gowns (this is Herrera after all), but it’s as if Gordon is saying no matter the dress code on the social calendar there’s still a look for the Herrera customer old and new.
Many seemed surprised by the orange anorak that Gordon showed this season, but it only makes sense: every uptown girl loves a dose of downtown cool every once in a while. And with Gordon’s help she may be able to find that mix of style all in one stop.
