An Easy Fashion Uniform at Givenchy

You had to make your way to the Givenchy Show in the dark. Set deep within the Palais du Justice, a single laser overhead guided the way to the runway, while what sounded like a dial-up modem screeched in the background. It all contributed to tense atmosphere. When the models hit the runway they bolted, with taut expressions across their faces. Good thing the clothes were easy to move in. Designer Clare Waight Keller said she was interested in the blurring of gender, looking at the idea of mirrors and how they can reflect "female and male in each other and cross-pollinates their gender characteristics." To that end, typical menswear styles like cargo pants and paper bag-waist pants worn with blazers or silk button-downs were shown on women while male models wore tight floral prints and slim cut suits in pastel hues. Keller presented an idea for getting dressed that felt easy to grasp, if a little boring: high-waisted pants and a well-tailored blazer and you're good to go. The evening wear was where things got exciting: floor-length gowns with a capelet sleeve, in dark colors and a skeletal design laid out in sparkles.
