Miley Cyrus’s breakup and divorce from Liam Hemsworth is long behind her. For years, she has been dating Maxx Morando, while Hemsworth has been seeing model Gabriella Brooks. But his impact on her life and work still remains. In fact, in two new interviews released this week, the singer mentioned Hemsworth while reflecting on her past.

In her Spotify Billions Club: Series video, Cyrus spoke about her 2013 song “Wrecking Ball,” strongly believed to be about Hemsworth. It was released that August, one month before Cyrus’s rep confirmed that the couple had ended their engagement.

Cyrus told Spotify the inspiration for “Wrecking Ball” was simple: “My man wasn’t acting right.” She offered no further commentary.

In her Harper’s Bazaar interview released earlier this week, Cyrus spoke about working with her family and loved ones, as she and Morando were making music together. Hemsworth got a shout-out there, too.

She referenced meeting him on their film The Last Song, saying, “I worked with my dad forever. That’s how me and my ex-husband met each other. I’ve always worked with the people that I love. And Maxx just inspires me so much.”

In August 2019, Cyrus shared a series of posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, where she explained why she and Hemsworth ended their relationship.

“Liam and I have been together for a decade,” she wrote. “I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will. BUT at this point I had to make a healthy decision for myself to leave a previous life behind. I am the healthiest and happiest I have been in a long time. You can say I am a twerking, pot smoking, foul-mouthed hillbilly but I am not a liar. I am proud to say, I am simply in a different place from where I was when I was younger.”
