When we first heard the term "lampshading", we assumed it was another social media-sparked word for throwing shade at someone.
But we were wrong. So wrong. It's a fashion trend, duh.
It's all about the silhouette created by thigh-high boots when they are paired with an oversized, baggy jumper or mini skirt.
Imagine you're a floor lamp, if you will; your legs are the stem, your clothes are the lamp shade. See, simple?
Rihanna is a fan, as are devotees of Vetements, the cult Parisian brand that has been showing thigh-highs with oversized hoodies and sweatshirts since last year—and we saw it all over the streets of the autumn/winter 2016 shows.
Right now we want to look like we don't care so much that we've just thrown on whatever we could find, and this look certainly has an air of this about it.
