“Consider the New Balance 530 the original dad sneaker,” says Stern Milch. “It’s a classic for a reason and goes with all of your favorite basics, from workout clothes to sundresses to jeans and T-shirts.”

Hoka sneakers have rightfully earned a cult following that includes many ELLE editors. Durable, comfortable, and surprisingly stylish, the brand’s popular Clifton 9 sneakers are suitable for casual gym-goers and half-marathon trainers alike.

If you’re looking for a less mainstream pair, try these Gola Tornado sneakers. Beloved by British soccer players for decades, the IYKYK style is a solid alternative to Sambas.

“There aren’t too many sneakers more iconic than Nike’s Cortez,” says Alexis Bennett-Parker, commerce content lead. “Created in 1972, it’s the timeless trainer I turn to when I want to be comfortable and still look put together.”

“In terms of comfort, these Salomon XT-Whisper sneakers give my tried-and-true New Balances a run for their money,” says Dale Arden Chong, senior fashion commerce editor. “I’ve worn these for extended walking days through New York and traipsing through Europe in unpredictable weather, so take that for what you will.”

Low-top Nike Dunks have the same cool factor and styling capabilities as the Air Force 1s that were omnipresent during the early 2020s. Yet, the basketball sneakers feature a lower profile that’s more in line with the soccer shoes dominating the current footwear market.

Chong admits she’s a “creature of habit” when it comes to sneakers. “For some things, there are just certain brands I turn to no matter what,” she explains. “New Balance has been (and still is) known for dad shoes, but the 327 is nothing like that; consider it the sleek alternative. I love wearing mine when I’m just running around but want to feel a little more polished than if I were wearing my more gorp-y styles.”

Kate Middleton has sported Superga’s 2750 Cotu sneakers for years. So, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that the affordable canvas shoes have worked their way into the closets of many ELLE staffers who cover royal style.

Reebok’s pumped-up Club C Extra is one of associate fashion commerce editor Meg Donahue’s favorite white platform sneakers. “The only caveat is that they’re definitely on the casual side,” she notes. “But with this level of comfort and affordability, that’s A-okay with me.”

Rexroat notes she’s into an “all-black sartorial vibe” as of late, one that includes monochrome black sneakers. “There’s something very cool and edgy about an all-black sneaker, especially one from Salomon,” remarks the associate accessories editor.

Donohue says that Adidas Gazelles are one of her most frequently worn—and most frequently complimented—pairs of shoes. “I reach for them time and time again for their comfort, practicality, and stylish statement,” she remarks.

“I love a vintage-inspired sneaker,” says Bennett-Parker. “When I want to splurge, Dries Van Noten’s trainers are my fave, but the sleek silhouette and low profile are just as cute on the Adidas Japan sneakers.”

The first iteration of Keds’ Champion sneakers debuted more than 100 years ago, yet they somehow feel right on trend for Spring 2025. Grab this suede Staud collab for an elevated take on a classic.

Bennett Parker says, “There’s no better sneakers for a long hot girl walk than New Balance’s comfy designs. In addition to the cushioned sole, I also love the metallic accents and the textured mesh panels on styles like the 1906r.”

Tried and true styles like Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars offer a low-stakes way to test out seasonal color trends. This vibrant ‘berry smoothie’ colorway adds a nice pop of color to any spring outfit.

Stern Milch recommends Nike’s V2K sneakers to those “who don’t want to sacrifice style for comfort,” noting, “They’re cool, comfortable, and easy to wear. What more could you want from a shoe?”
