Almost every character on Riverdale—Vegas the dog included—is pulled directly from Archie Comics, but unless you're an Archie diehard, you might not know how similar many of the show's live-action stars look to their comic counterparts. Riverdale Midge, played by Emilija Baranac, is pretty much the twin of illustrated Midge, but others—Fred Andrews, for example—got a major upgrade for the small screen. Click through to see what each Riverdale character looks like compared to the version that appears in the comics.

5

Cheryl Blossom

Hair, Cartoon, Face, Animated cartoon, Lip, Nose, Hairstyle, Cheek, Fun, Makeover,
The CW/Archie Comics

Comics Cheryl may not have the killer brooches, but that giant earring indicates that she too is a wizard at accessorizing.

6

Kevin Keller

Cartoon, Animated cartoon, Illustration, Finger, Animation, Fictional character, Gesture, Style,
The CW/Archie Comics

Here's hoping Kevin soon finds love and/or better friends than Betty.

Josie McCoy

Hair, Yellow, Illustration, Art, Style,
The CW/Archie Comics

I appreciate the fact that Riverdale Josie and her bandmates incorporate the whole Pussycat thing into their wardrobes in a much subtler fashion than the comic versions did.

8

Valerie Brown

Cheek, Hairstyle, Yellow, Chin, Forehead, Jheri curl, Eyebrow, Style, Ringlet, Afro,
The CW/Archie Comics

Too good for Archie Andrews in both live-action and illustrated forms.

Riverdale really needs to up its Melody quotient in 2018. Give her a drum solo, Josie!

Interesting that the show decided to make Ethel a redhead when there were already so many redheads.

18

F.P. Jones

Face, Cartoon, Facial expression, Animated cartoon, Nose, Forehead, Cheek, Fun, Animation, Illustration,
The CW/Archie Comics

Ditto the casting choice of Skeet Ulrich for Jughead's dad. Was there something in the Riverdale water supply that caused all these cartoon men to go bald?

19

Hermione Lodge

Face, Hair, Cartoon, Eyebrow, Facial expression, Cheek, Nose, Chin, Hairstyle, Head,
The CW/Archie Comics

Bless the CW for casting Marisol Nichols as Hermione so that Mom Lodge didn't end up looking exactly like Mom Cooper, who was basically her twin in the comics.

20

Hiram Lodge

White-collar worker, Suit, Formal wear, Tie, Fictional character, Gesture, Illustration, Tuxedo, Smile,
The CW/Archie Comics

Comics Hiram looks a lot less ready to blackmail his wife into lying to their daughter, but who knows? Maybe there's a stone-cold liar lurking behind that jaunty mustache.
